  • WfmwbannerSo, I've been reading the blog RocksInMyDryer for awhile.  Although, I don't comment often, I like to read what's going on and find it often interesting.  On Wednesdays, there is a special theme "Works for me Wednesday."  As you already know, it is summer vacation for me, so I have been staying busy by selling books on Amazon and going to the doctor, and well, that's pretty much it.  So, I'm doing a little more blogging.  I decided to try Works For Me this week, because I often have ideas that I think are new.  Maybe nobody cares about them, but you never know.  We'll see how it goes this week, and maybe try again another time.

So, for the longest time, I was having this problem in my bathroom closet.  I live in some tight quarters and I think when I first moved in, I just put items in locations closest to where they were used, but that was the most I thought about it.  Fast forward almost four years (four years!?) and now you see me reaching for things in my closet and having everything falling down to the floor.  This was really happening in my bathroom closet.  I had lotions, shampoo/conditioner bottles in the back, and fingernail polish in the front.  Organized by height, right?

This is a good idea, until you reach for the shampoo and your fingernail polish falls to the tile floor.  Uh...yeah, I'm not sure how the red stain got there, Officer...Last week, I solved the problem by purchasing a turntable that is meant for spices in the kitchen cabinet.  While, I only placed the smaller bottles on the turntable, I was able to place the tall bottles on the side of the closet, so that nothing falls out, anymore.  I love the turntable, too, because, now I can spin it for whatever I am looking for and am no longer knocking anything over.  I am thinking of purchasing another one for the larger items, possibly, to place on another shelf.  Hey!  Why not throughout the whole house?  Jeans?  Sure!  Sweaters?  Why not!

Anyway, I purchased it at K-Mart for around $1.99, and while I don't have before pictures, I do have some for after the Turntable Renovation...Look!

Turntable in Action 001Turntable in Action 002  Uhh, yeah, and I don't really need 5 soaps from Bath and Body works, but they have their seasonal sale a few weeks ago and they were each only $3.  You can also see one of my new fingernail polishes on the turntable.

YAY!  very brilliant, I like it.  Do keep up your works for me wednesday if you can!  It's a great idea. :)

How clever of you!  I solved the same problem by using canvas bins I can toss everything into, but this is also a great system.  I'm thinking....under the bathroom sink!

how is the business of selling books on Amazon?  That is something I might be interested in if it does well for you.  I have tons of books.

It's been going really well.  It's pretty easy to do, you just have to try to offer for a low enough price that people will buy it and high enough that you will make a profit.  And also, keep your shipping costs down.  I use mailing envelopes from K-Mart and ship through the US Mail.  I'm not sure how much profit I've actually made (taking out the shipping costs), but I have sold quite a lot.  It is also sometimes surprising what is a popular buy and what is not.  Some items I didn't like, sold really quickly and other things that I loved haven't sold.

I love it! Anything that involves organization gets my vote. I might try this out as I have the same stinkin problem. I use buckets to at least separate some things.
